Hello Hive Mind... I'm attempting to boost the number of fast USB connections on my desktop. It should be straightforward. I have ample PCI-E bays and unused PCI lanes. I also have internet access and a credit card, but that's not the issue. I possess numerous peripherals and cables that I'd like to connect simultaneously for ease. Not all of them are used concurrently, which isn't the main concern. Yes, I own hubs—both powered and unpowered—and they function adequately, though they sometimes feel inconsistent. They also contribute to the clutter I'm trying to minimize. Adding one or two extra PCI-e cards with additional ports seems like the optimal solution. So far, I've purchased, tested, and returned two units that match my expectations:

I didn't particularly like the color of these, but I appreciated the port variety and specifications. They appeared to be from a reputable brand with positive reviews. However, my PC wouldn't boot after installation—constant looping and BIOS errors. No display output or BIOS access.

This one seemed better overall—more ports, nicer color—but it felt unbranded and unreliable. To fit it in the PCI-e slot, the cover didn't hold a screw securely, which posed a safety risk. If I adjusted the position to allow a proper fit, it might have worked.

I've been searching for something practical and affordable for a reasonable price, but nothing seems to be working. I expected more interest in this type of product, right? Any suggestions or good recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks!

They appear quite appealing. It seems hard to locate them in the UK, though. One EU retailer could be worth checking, but they carry just a single variant.
