In short, someone is preventing access to your motherboard’s USB 3.0 header. You need a male USB 3.0 to female USB 2.0 adapter. It’s similar to SATA to Molex, with some challenges. The key is ensuring front panel USB functions for peripherals without requiring 3.0 speeds. I just need the 20-pin USB 3.0 connector to work.

It seems there are no issues in the setup. The advice about SATA to Molex adapters is correct—they differ in voltage and may not be safe. USB 3.0 headers are essentially USB 2.0 headers with additional pins, making them safe to use. Your motherboard should remain intact.

I haven't tried them myself, so I'm not entirely sure there won't be any problems. Others might have different experiences. Regarding the adapters between Sata and Molex, I've never encountered any issues using them. I've used many of these over the years with HDDs, SSDs, and even water pumps. The only time I noticed a problem was when the adapter didn't pass the 3.3V line from Sata power, which some devices need.
