Previously I used a 960 still and thought 1440p was the main issue. Now with a 980 I see the CPU usage spikes very high. I often run into bottlenecks, hitting 95-100% on all cores. I can adjust settings but performance drops when I start playing. The GTX 980 seems to be barely contributing. Some suggest using older games, but that doesn't help. My CPU is a 4,2ghz 4670K, it was especially taxing during outdoor scenes with the family car. All enemies were dead while moving, which looks like poor optimization.

Consider CPU limitations, GPU performance, and possible driver updates. Disk problems might be involved—check those too.

The game isn't running well when it's the latest version of Wolfenstein, or if you're unsure. PS: Would you be okay with pushing the CPU or hitting the thermal limits?

Yes, the mini ITX setup is already operating at 72-74°C.

The game isn't running smoothly since I'm unsure how to fix it. Also, consider reinstalling the GPU drivers.

What video speed do you receive? With your 4670K and 980, we can compare the options for you.

It doesn't resemble a bottleneck since my old i5 handled similar performance in some games. The GPU maintained around 90-99% usage, which is typical. However, it seems you achieved 60fps with afterburner enabled, possibly due to V-sync restricting GPU performance.

Mostly stable at 60 frames, then drops to 50 without any reason. GPU usage stays under 80% and CPU hovers around 80-90%. I’m sure the CPU isn’t the issue, but I don’t understand why the frame rate suddenly plummets.

I played the game today for bit on the initial mission, though I own an i7. I noticed my GPU usage stayed under 80% even when settings were increased. With V-sync enabled, that’s probably the reason. I managed to maintain a consistent 60fps, but only for the first mission. I’d switch off V-sync if possible and test again, otherwise it seems to be the game’s default. I didn’t turn it off myself.
