Usually I stick with Chrome, Firefox, or Opera and avoid Internet Explorer. It's been a while since I really relied on IE, especially after it reached version 8. I wanted to explore something new and different from what's standard. After reading about Spartan, I thought it would be useful to check out the current state of IE. So I planned to use only IE for a month to see if I could stick with it long-term. To do that, I cleared all other browsers from my computer. This also lets me see how regular users view a site after a visit. I had to reinstall IE11 because it was removed on Windows 8.1. To make things fair, I set up Google as the default search engine, installed the latest version of Adblock Plus (for tracking privacy), and updated Flash to its newest release. So far, I've noticed that IE uses significantly less RAM—down from 800MB in Chrome to just 200MB in IE while watching YouTube. The speed remains the same.

I’ve switched to using IE on my Surface while keeping Chrome on my desktop. I notice Chrome consumes more battery, which matters when the device runs on power. Having OneNote half the screen and "Metro" IE on the other helps me browse course material effectively. It’s been quite functional overall. The only downside is missing a few extensions, especially PushBullet, though it does have a desktop version.
