Urgent assistance required for Threadripper Pro setup! (Postcode 7C, DRAM illumination detected)
I'm facing difficulties getting my new machine to boot properly. It's a server-grade compute unit, and I've tried everything I can think of. The specs are listed, but the issue persists. I've tested multiple motherboards and CPUs, reconfigured the system thoroughly, and even checked RAM placement and BIOS updates. The machine keeps showing the error code "7C" and doesn't respond at all. Since it's supposed to be a server board, I've used IPMI to diagnose, but the CPU detection is missing. I'm unsure if I'm making any mistakes, especially since I'm new to this build. I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what's going on. Thanks in advance!
Review the C7 POST code list available online. These codes generally apply to most systems, though your specific setup might differ. For more details on Award BIOS POST codes, check the resource at https://mrbios.com/techsupport/award/postcodes.htm. Also, confirm whether your board uses ECC RAM, as this could be necessary depending on its configuration.
I just received the ECC memory from the QVL list today and tested it. The same problem occurred—non-ECC memory was also used—and I had previously tried non-ECC as well (the original post assumed some improvement). The 7C post code mentioned is labeled "Shadow video/system BIOS after memory proven good." The second link offered several options for the 7C code, with "Set up hardware interrupts vectors" being the most frequent. I’m not entirely sure how to use these codes right now.
PSB seems to be talking about a vendor-locked CPU. It appears to be a brand new chip. I also bought another one from Amazon to confirm it wasn’t the same issue. The chance both are vendor locked is probably low. If it’s not about that, could you clarify what PSB stands for? Lol (Sorry, I’m really new to building PCs and have more coding experience than you!)
