Upgrading your RAM might improve performance and reduce in-game stutters.
Hey everyone, I’m facing some stuttering issues in games like Valorant. Using abilities tends to slow me down, dropping my frame rate from around 300 to about 200 and sometimes hitting the 100s. I’ve tried updating my BIOS and drivers to the latest versions, but it’s still happening. I think my RAM speeds might be contributing since I have a mid-range setup. I’m wondering if upgrading my specs could help reduce these stutters. My current build is: Ryzen 5 5600X, RX 6600XT, B550 Aorus Elite v2, 16GB RAM (2x8GB at 2400MHz). The PSU is 650W. No worries, any advice would be greatly appreciated
Ryzen performs better with faster memory, especially at 2400MHz. That speed level is considered early DDR4.
Faster RAM offers a small boost and won’t cause any harm. Still, before you start upgrading, share a picture of the SPD page from Thaphoon Burner. This will confirm your memory type and show that most systems can handle 3200MHz CL16—quite solid for Ryzen with minimal work. It might even save you around $50 and unlock a free performance upgrade.
The key details are manufacturer, die density/count, and organization. These chips are Micron 4Gb Rev. H in dual rank form. There’s limited data available; they claim solid clock performance around 3200MHz CL16-18-18-38 at 1.35V, which should be straightforward to achieve. You might reach higher speeds with 3800MHz CL16-18-16-40, though no clear guidance exists on that. The package supports up to 2400MHz, but overclocking is possible for better results.
I'll check if the stutters improve with a 3600mhz cl18 16GB RAM setup. Regarding the heat, I noticed CPU usage drops to 5-8% at 80-85°C, which makes me wonder if temperature affects performance. The GPU seems fine compared to higher usage levels. A cooler or better thermal paste might help with the 5600X under load.
