I'm getting ready to switch to Windows 11. With support ending soon and Linux still needing work for gaming, I'm choosing the upgrade. My main concern is moving my appdata folders safely. Do I just copy them directly from their current spot to another drive and then back? Would that work without issues? I've seen others suggest just moving the folder, but I want to ensure everything stays intact.

Moving the entire appdata folder is a poor choice—it's basically just Windows's clutter bin. If you need to retain certain files, do the work and back them up properly instead of risking a mess of outdated data. Moreover, most stored items in appdata are meant to be portable, so software accessing them should handle it smoothly, provided they're well-built.

Beyond Minecraft and a few other game folders that occasionally hold files, I wouldn’t waste time on most of it, as @manikyath mentioned. There are no problems moving the %appdata% folder or anything inside to another drive and back later.

Great! Thanks to both of you. I wasn't thinking about moving everything, just a few things like Plex, plus some game saves, and maybe a few more based on what I discover.
