Upgrading to Linux Mint for Decky plugins while other aspects fail.
Hey everyone! I’ve officially decided to go with Linux Mint. My previous tries with Nobara and SteamOS seemed straightforward, but now I’m confused about some odd behavior. Installing Steam from the website using the Debian package was easy, and setting up Emudeck followed a simple guide. Here’s a link to the setup process: https://i12bretro.wordpress.com/2024/02/...-on-linux/. I encountered a blank white screen when trying to launch Steam via the EA Linux command, as suggested on Patreon. Everything else installed and configured properly. When I tried to open Test Smash Bros. Melee, I couldn’t access the Steam overlay menu. Doom Eternal worked fine, though. Maybe I need to update my settings? It seems like the same problem persists with any emulated game. I thought Linux Mint would be a breeze, but it’s proving to be more complicated than expected. Still, I’m open to suggestions—anyone have ideas? This is really frustrating! I thought this platform was designed for simplicity. Did I make a mistake? My Linux experience has mostly been with Nobara and SteamOS. The TDP and fan control issues in Nobara, plus the outdated HoloISO, must be contributing here. It’s hard to keep my sanity when things don’t work as planned. Thanks for any help you can offer!
Do you use Linux Mint or its Debian version? Installing Steam on Mint often causes missing i386 files, which means you need to activate the correct repository and add the necessary packages manually. Have you removed the original Steam setup before attempting a fresh installation?
I put Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop in place. Yes, I installed Steam several times while trying to restore from backups. Ultimately I reinstalled Mint and am now setting up Emuleck and friends.
Even using the Steam Packet manager version, I can't reach the overlay with emulated titles. Linux Mint isn't ideal for emulation. I'll give it a shot with Pop_OS—good luck!
