Upgrading to a 5000 AMD CPU paired with a B550 motherboard
It seems you'll need a flash drive. On certain recent boards, you can retrieve Windows files from the BIOS interface, though Gigabyte doesn't provide this option. The update section is labeled "Q-Flash" for Gigabyte models. The manual mentions your board can save its current BIOS settings before updating—a useful feature. A video demonstrates the steps, just replace the B550M Aorus Elite with the X570 shown: having BIOS Flashback is handy because if flashing fails, you can often revert using it. You'll require a USB drive, but as long as another computer is available to copy files onto it, the process should work reliably. I personally used BIOS Flashback to recover my machine after getting frustrated during a lengthy update and accidentally powering it off.
Thanks for the assistance! I plan to watch and read more videos and articles to confirm my understanding, but appreciate your help. Also, sorry about the issues with your PC, but at least it came back. The lesson here is to never turn off your computer!
I successfully updated the BIOS, and everything is working properly now. I installed the latest version I had available, which is F17 (previously I used F13). Thank you very much for your assistance!
