I mostly play games and do some video/photo editing. A friend mentioned I might be limited if I get a 4090 or an AMD equivalent GPU with my current 3800x. After watching a comparison video, I'm shocked by how much the frame rate jumps from 3800x to 5800x3d (up to 150 extra frames in some games). My current setup is a 1440p 144Hz Titan X Pascal, and I plan to upgrade soon.

Choose a 4K display with a high refresh rate like 144 Hz or 120Hz for the best performance. A 4090 becomes unnecessary without such a screen.

This idea is really good! Personally, I rarely upgrade my graphics cards, so I see it as a way to stay ahead for the long term.

It's accurate. Components above 3080 or 3080Ti will slow down your CPU in demanding games unless you play at 4K resolution. A 5800X3D makes sense as an upgrade, but only if your graphics card is much more powerful than yours.

It seems you're aiming for a maximum of 2k and think newer GPUs will outperform the 3080, which means you might want a stronger CPU. Thanks!
