Hello, I noticed your old desktop still had BIOS version 1302 while the newest release is 1603. I quickly downloaded the latest update with the accompanying utility and tried installing it. The process hit a snag when the update tool couldn’t identify the Intel Management Engine. It seems the current IME version might be outdated and not recognized by ASUS’ update software. After searching for solutions, I think downgrading the IME installation could resolve the issue. However, rather than risking damage, I thought it wise to seek guidance. Would downgrading the IME be the best approach? Anyone have experience with this? Where can I find advice on which version to target? Thanks for your help!

Bioses are typically matched with identical Intel management engine versions, which helps prevent updates. Always rely on your BIOS for updates, not software inside the operating system. If a ME update is required, it will be part of the installation.

It seems you're suggesting a method to update the BIOS via USB.

Take the BIOS file directly and apply the update through the built-in update utility within the BIOS settings.
