Hello, I own a collection of G-Skill F4-3600C16-8GTZ X2 units. My PC is finally reaching its 16GB limit, and I need more capacity. The original model was expensive because it was a B-Die, but I managed to get great timing. My concern is whether a cheaper 3600 2x16GB RAM package would really make a difference in performance. I’m willing to spend more if it’s worth it, but I’m considering the current setup I can buy for what I see as its used price on Amazon. Please let me know your thoughts.

If your components gain advantages from quicker response times, that's a factor too—though it also relies on your existing setup. Since this isn't a fake setup, you're not wasting time on the scam 3600 16-18-18 or similar outdated models. You can explore used markets for alternatives like 3200C14, 3600 16-16-16, or even 4400 19-19-19 (Viper Steel) for a 4x8 dual rank configuration. You're unlikely to exceed 3800-4000 unless you're looking for extreme performance, which is rare unless you need over 3800MHz clock speed for daily synchronization. For most modern boards, reaching at least 4000 MHz should be possible even with daisy-chained systems, so your motherboard limitations aren't a big issue.

You're right about the price, but RAM is still quite affordable these days, so I wouldn't cut corners. Go with what fits your needs.

My top B die collection is in a 3600 CL17 slot, capable of handling 4133 CL12 with sufficient voltage, whereas my 4400 CL17 unit struggles with 4000 CL12 under the same conditions. It could be due to differences between dual and single rank configurations, or IMC restrictions (likely why it caps at 4000 instead of 4200). Still, achieving 4000 CL14 seems manageable with enough voltage, suggesting the issue isn't primarily IMC. I've also seen some mediocre units fail in lower bins, while higher tiers perform better at the same voltage. Overall, B die quality varies greatly—higher tiers are more reliable, though still unpredictable. The best bet might be a different chipset, like Micron 16Gb Rev.B, which could handle acceptable timings for everyday use, or a more capable processor such as the R5 5600G. Whether it's worth upgrading depends on your system; a 5800X3D would prioritize speed over timing precision, while a budget model like the R5 5600G would notice the difference. I'm updating the kit so it aligns with your needs. The goal is to purchase two 16GB drives and return my old one. The processor is a 3700x—should have noted that earlier. Likely, there won’t be any advantage beyond around 3600 unless you're correct.
