Under load, how does Windows manage memory? It consumes RAM even when idle, but you likely won’t need more RAM unless you’re doing heavy file operations.

It's similar to having around 10 GB of RAM available for quicker performance.

Yes, faster memory can boost gaming performance slightly, though the improvement is modest and not substantial.

Higher RAM speeds can boost performance when the CPU is the bottleneck, yes. However, if you're using a DDR3 setup, it might not be worth spending extra on faster DDR3 just to fit your existing hardware. Consider saving for a newer CPU instead. With an older GPU, you're more likely constrained by graphics than by processing power.

I'm restricted on the GPU until Christmas, after which I'll upgrade to a 1660 Super. My current setup is a 3.2 GHz, 8-core, hyper-threaded CPU, so I'm not CPU-limited.

I don't have a CPU or GPU myself, but I'm ready to help with any questions about them!

When your system stays near full capacity, extra RAM will likely boost performance. For faster RAM, the improvement varies—some CPUs gain more than others, and some users notice no change in games. It’s usually more effective to focus on other components rather than just RAM upgrades, as the gains are modest. Think of it as a thoughtful decision when setting up a PC, not just a quick fix.

I rarely go beyond 14 gigs, except when I have a lot of things open.
