I built my first PC about four years ago and I’m thinking about improving a few components. I had an ASRock B450M Pro4, a Ryzen 5 2400G with 2x8GB RAM (Ballistix), and a Corsair CX 650M. The motherboard was upgraded to B550 Pro 4 and a Ruzen 5 5600G, but now it won’t boot. The new board has four lights, and the CPU and RAM are lit, but VGA and booting aren’t working. Fans and CPU fan are running, yet it doesn’t display anything. Any advice?
These indicators should illuminate when the system functions correctly. When the CPU and RAM lights activate, it suggests a problem with either the processor or the memory. Have you tested one memory card separately, changed the memory slots, or reinserted the RAM?
Lights will change in sequence starting with white, then turn off if everything is fine. If issues persist, they shift to red, though they usually return to white if parts are correctly placed. A BIOS update might be necessary for the 5000-series Ryzen. Many boards offer this, even though their listings say "5000 ready." I was fortunate enough to have a smooth start with my Zen3 build. Others haven’t fared so well. You may want to ensure RAM and CPU are properly seated; if that doesn’t resolve it, consider a BIOS update. There are two ways to do this on certain boards—some support USB BIOS flashing, which is straightforward but needs downloading the BIOS from the manufacturer’s site onto a USB drive and connecting it to the designated port. The alternative involves using an older processor that matches the earlier BIOS, which should work with your 2600G. The ATX model you have doesn't work with the 5600G unless you install a BIOS update. Version 4.60 seems to enable compatibility for it.
I've completed everything, but it keeps failing to start. The previous CPU isn't working with the new motherboard.
