Hey there! Let's break this down. Your laptop has a base RAM of 8 gigabits, but the stock module runs at 2666Mhz while Windows shows it as 2400Mhz. That’s a bit confusing. For your current setup, you should stick with the 8 gigabits because upgrading to higher speeds isn’t necessary unless you need more performance.

For dual-channel memory, you have two options: either upgrade both slots to match the 8 gigabit capacity (which would be 16 gigabits total) or keep one slot at 8 gigabits and upgrade the other to 16 gigabits. Since your system already has dual channels, it’s best to ensure both slots are compatible with the same speed.

As for memory speed, stick with DDR4 2666Mhz unless you’re planning heavy multitasking or gaming. Higher speeds like 2400Mhz won’t help much here and might not be supported. So, go with the stock 8 gigabits in both slots.

The 16GB should work well given the 3550H's performance. I'm not sure why it's limited to 2400MHz—can you check CPU-Z for more details?

It seems the controller is limited to 2400 MHz. Check the system memory details. The AMD Ryzen 5 3550H page mentions 2666 MHz RAM, but Amazon lists it as 2400 MHz. Verify the specifications on the product pages.

It depends on how fast you need it to go. An 8+16 configuration might suffice if speed isn't the main concern, but if you want more capacity, adding an 8G stick could give you the extra 16 gigabytes of RAM you might need.

For casual gaming without heavy editing or memory demands, 16 gigabytes works well. IMHO

For dual channel, aim for 8+8 and ensure matching speed and latency for optimal performance.

After working with Davinci Resolve, system resources can reach up to 18-20 gigabytes.

it should function properly, though after exceeding 16GB the performance drops to single-channel speeds. Improves over traditional caching methods for SSDs and HDDs, but still underperforms 16+16 configurations even at 24GB or more.

Your CPU can handle up to 2400MHz RAM, while you currently have 2666MHz installed. You should consider buying more RAM to fully utilize your system's potential.

So there wouldn't be any compatibility issues right. It WILL WORK right?
