Hello, I recently encountered a problem with my memory stick in the Dell Precision Tower 5810. I’ll share my current system details, but mainly I’m looking to upgrade. The main concern is whether this motherboard and CPU can support non-ECC memory. I’m interested in purchasing non-ECC DDR4 RAM so that later, when I upgrade parts of my PC to something more common (not a workstation), I can retain the existing memory without replacing it entirely, saving costs. Could someone with more technical knowledge help me decide the best option? I’d also like to know the maximum supported speeds and whether ECC or non-ECC is feasible. Thanks!

I prefer ECC memory for these setups because it's typically more affordable, offers larger capacities, and provides protection benefits. The reuse idea doesn't seem practical since modern systems now mostly use DDR5. Mixing ECC with non-ECC memory would require swapping all existing modules, which isn't feasible. Your system is currently operating at the maximum speed of 1200 MHz or 2400 MT/s.

Typically you can't combine ECC and non-ECC memory. If your system has ECC RAM and you wish to retain it, the best choice is to use ECC DIMMs.
