You're looking to upgrade from a Ryzen 1600 to a Ryzen 3600 while staying on the same motherboard. First, check if your current ASRock X370 board supports the newer Ryzen 3600 model. If not, you may need to replace the motherboard or use a compatible one. Before the upgrade, ensure your BIOS is updated to the latest version for both the CPU and motherboard. After installing the new CPU, verify that the BIOS reflects the changes and apply any necessary updates. Post-upgrade, monitor system stability and performance. If issues arise, consider reinstalling the BIOS or consulting official documentation. Let me know if you need further guidance!

Locate the most recent BIOS updates for your boards, apply them, and then swap in the CPU. You won’t need further upgrades afterward.

Are you sure? I've seen some people on Reddit stress out about switching from a Ryzen 1 board to a Ryzen 3 card. I'm upgrading my PC because my kid needs better gaming experience.

Asrock recommends the following steps:
1) Move to version 3.5
2) Set up the newest AMD all in one install with VGA driver
3) Upgrade to version 5.1
4) Proceed with version 5.4
5) Add 3600
6) Advance to version 5.8 or the most recent release

An X370 board can run a third-generation Ryzen processor after applying a BIOS upgrade. Ensure your BIOS is updated to version 1600 before adding the 3600 chipset.

Asrock confirms you must refresh the AMD version all at once using the VGA driver; otherwise the display won’t appear after BIOS updates. Edit: I missed the reference.

The "AMD all in 1 with VGA driver" package comes directly from AMD and its sequence is essential for compatible motherboard upgrades.

The driver comes from the Asrock website, listed first under Support, then Download. For my order, I’m unsure of its purpose, but there’s a warning: "If your current BIOS is older than P3.50, update BIOS to P3.50 (Bridge BIOS) before updating this version." Other versions need similar updates in that sequence. Following their guidance would help prevent issues.
