Currently I have a B45O tomahawk max motherboard, paired with a Ryzen 5 3600, 32GB RAM (8GBx4), a Crosair 650 watt PSU, and an 1660s super. This was a build made during the pandemic using whatever options were available—very satisfied with it. It handles work, light video editing, handbrake conversions, and some gaming (my son enjoys Train SIM World 5). I’m considering swapping the CPU for a Ryzen 7 5700X, which could be ordered for £95 from Ali. I’m also eyeing an Intel B580 GPU once it becomes available, as they’re hard to find in the UK since launch. How does this sound for keeping it on the AM4 platform now? I might sell the 3600 for around £50, but I’m thinking about retaining the 1660s and adding some refurbished parts so my son can build his own PC. What are your thoughts on the B580 as an upgrade? I’d prefer to go higher like an X3D if possible, but I’d rather save money since it will also cost for the B580 and other components.
95£ for the 5700x is decent, but 5700x3d should be around 150£. It competes well against 7600 and moves forward with simulation titles such as Factorio 3600 and 1660s, making it a solid choice for PCs valuing low resale value.
