I could say my 3770K is still ok too If you have the cash and want to upgrade, do it. If you are happy with what you have, keep using it.. There is always more performance just around the corner.. the question is, do you want to wait or do you want to indulge?

Which board is it—Mortar or Carbon? If it offers solid VRMs and a stable BIOS for the 5000 series, I’d upgrade to a 5800x and extend its lifespan. The MSI models generally had adequate VRMs, though a few exceptions existed. Avoid boards with poor VRMs; stick with your 3600. If power delivery is sufficient, jumping from a 3700x to a 5900x isn’t necessary unless you want more cores—like moving from 5600/5600x to 5800/5800x would require extra cores for a meaningful boost. I’ve seen this firsthand; the 5900x worked well with me, and I’m satisfied with the performance.

It’s the hottest chip you could invest in unless you’re using an Intel variant with adequate cooling. It feels like a big gamble for performance, but lots of boosts. It seems if you don’t notice it, the GPU takes priority over the CPU in settings like "max." For instance, even with ROTTR on "max" it still prioritizes the GPU. When I inspect the details, I follow a specific workflow—hard to overlook something! (No worries about odd phrasing or FPS; this is just Tomb Raider Anniversary). Of course, the CPU could bottleneck at times, but I haven’t seen it in the games yet. (That said, something like handbrake might push it to 99-100%). Ironically, I’m pretty sure it’s a CPU limitation, not an engine issue. It looks like the hardware is probably fine with the VRMs, though I’m not sure. MSDS usually releases beta BIOS for this stuff... the current non-beta version doesn’t support my CPU (probably). Honestly, I should have mentioned occasional recording issues and maybe consider an 8-core setup if needed? And yeah, AM5 is coming soon... lol. But I still wanted to hear what others think since the motherboard now supports 5000-series chips (beta only).)

It seems like you're asking if the question is really a 6C for a 6C, and you're considering saving up for a 3D cache and DDR5 now. On the other hand, it's just $200... haha!

Everyone focuses on colors because they’re the main thing here. For someone who uses their 5600X, a 5900X feels unnecessary and just draws attention. With my 5600, I can handle heavy gaming without issues and it stays smooth. The cooling is straightforward too.

VRMs manage heat effectively, reaching temperatures between 50 and 70°C, which prevents performance drops. I’d still fit an 8-core 5000 series board, possibly improving cooling as suggested elsewhere, but running at a lower power profile or skipping PBO would help avoid stressing the power delivery. Whether it’s worth it hinges on your needs—more cores can help with streaming and recording, boosting IPC might offset that. If gaming is the priority, sticking with the 3600 makes sense, especially if you’re using a 1080p monitor. Upgrading to a 1440p G-Sync compatible display would be a great step forward.
