Upgrading a PC for a friend.
I own a powerful 3600/GTX 1080 system that’s sitting idle. I considered giving it to a friend who needs a break so he can retire his setup. However, the only thing missing is storage, while he has everything he needs. A complete Windows 10 setup and more. The main concern is whether Windows can detect all data on the drive and move everything seamlessly if all proprietary drivers are removed. This would preserve even game files without any loss. I’m new to this process.
Windows 10 performs well for this task. Just ensure it isn't an outdated version such as Win 10 1809 or similar. You might also consider a gradual approach, replacing components one by one for added certainty.
If it's a temporary fix, you can still proceed. Make sure he has a full Windows license rather than an OEM one initially. Simply drop his drive into the system and observe—likely it will loop briefly during driver updates, installations, and restarts, which might take a few minutes before stabilizing. You're free to uninstall existing drivers if needed.
