Upgraded Patriot Viper3 DDR3 to 1866mhz at 1600mhz
I have an Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 with an OC AMD FX 8320 (OC to 4.2ghz). I attempted to adjust the RAM frequency to 1866, but encountered an OC Failed error. Resetting it to the default 1600mhz works, so I believe I need to modify the timings, though I'm not sure what values to use or how to change them.
It assists in sharing the precise memory you possess. For instance, the 2X8 GB model features 10-10-10-27 timings while the 2X4 has 9-9-9-24.
You should notice minimal performance variation on your PC based on your usage and how tight the timings are.
Adjust the timings to looser settings and increase the voltage from 1.5 to 1.55, then retry if it doesn’t work—up to 1.6.
Run Memtest after startup to verify stability.
If the 2X8GB model remains stable at 1866 with 1.55 volts, raise the voltage to 1.6 and set timings to 9-9-9-24. If it fails, attempt 1.62 volts.
For the 2X4 model, if it’s stable at 1866 with 1.55 volts, try 2133 at 1.6 volts if needed, then switch to 2133 with 10-10-10-27...
It assists in sharing the precise memory details. For instance, the 2X8 GB model features 10-10-10-27 timings while the 2X4 has 9-9-9-24.
Your performance change in the PC will likely remain similar based on your usage and how loose the timings are set.
Therefore, maintain consistent timings and increase voltage from 1.5 to 1.55, then test again if it doesn’t work—up to 1.6. Run Memtest after startup to verify stability.
If the 2X8GB model runs smoothly at 1866 with 1.55 volts, raise the voltage to 1.6 and adjust timings to 9-9-9-24 if needed. If it fails, proceed to 1.62 volts.
For the 2X4 model, if it works at 1866 with 1.55 volts, try 2133 at 1.6 volts, then switch to 2133 with 10-10-10-27 if issues persist, or test 1.62 volts.
