Upgraded high-end system achieving 10-150 fps in Valorant?
So my friend just purchased this pre-built PC a day ago. While configuring it in Windows and playing some games, we encountered an issue in Valorant. His FPS dropped drastically from 150 to 20 whenever he moved or looked around, and the Task Manager showed 'Power usage very high'. We tried different settings for Apex Legends on maximum configuration, but his average remained around 200 fps. Is this related to Valorant? I adjusted his Nvidia settings and power plan management, but it didn’t resolve the problem.
its probably vanguard blocking half the programs on your friends PC.
That game is a virus, or should I say, its anti cheat is.
I don't know why people play it. It breaks PC just to make sure no one cheats. Who owns the PC? You or the game?
how hot is PC getting?
What Make/model PSU?
don't worry about the power usage, its a desktop. you can ignore those columns, they more for laptops where it matters.
We verified the PC temperature across several games, and it remains between 30-40 degrees. Even in Valorant. Additionally, another unusual occurrence: the game launches at 200 fps, stays steady for a minute, then drops to 20 or 9 or 100 and becomes completely unplayable. Could this be related to a firewall issue? It seems to affect only this game. I have no idea what model it is.
Attempt a clean boot to check for changes – follow the guidance carefully and ensure no Microsoft services are disabled or Windows fails to load. If this resolves the issue, it likely points to a startup program. Over several restarts, stop the programs you stopped to identify the culprit. You’ll still need to keep Vanguard active, as removing it would prevent the game from functioning. Try halting all other applications at startup to observe any improvements.
We attempted a clean boot, and the FPS reached up to 600. It remained there for a moment before fluctuating again... 50-100 fps aren't maintaining stability. It seems we're playing Valorant now?
I'm curious to find out what PSU it is.
I'm not sure if it's the game or his PC.
Try downloading HWINFO from https://www.hwinfo.com/download/
When he runs it, check the box next to sensors only and click Run.
In the next window, click the icon next to the clock labeled "logging start" when you hover over it.
This opens file explorer, letting him name a log file so he can remember it.
Run the game and record the sensors.
The output can be viewed in Excel or Google Docs.
If you want me to review it, you can upload it to a file sharing site.
It captures too much information but might help explain the drops.
Here are some tips—don't download anything—

The site asks you to install Driver Easy, which I wouldn't do,
since third-party driver updates could cause more issues.
It seems the answer was just unusual. The hardware acceleration in Discord handled it...
