You can try installing Windows 8.1 64-bit using a virtual machine or a compatibility layer, but the original Vista installation won’t directly work on it. Consider converting the existing Windows 32-bit setup to a bootable USB and then using tools like Boot Camp or System Restore to upgrade.

Avoid relying on outdated drives unless you need to retrieve data. It seems you're questioning their usefulness. Don't go for the Pentium version—this isn't advised.
