Hello everyone... I'm looking to upgrade my T3610 laptop with 16GB x 8 ECC RAM. I've checked eBay but wanted a more informed suggestion, so I'm reaching out here for expert advice on the best places to purchase from. I'm based in the UK and would really value any recommendations or leads. Thanks!

I think I'll get four 16GB modules. That should boost speeds, it's a quad-channel CPU. There are plenty of choices on eBay and Simmilars for affordable DDR3 ECC RAM.

What memory capacity and processor are required? An ECC DDR3 should be affordable so you shouldn't overspend on it. Regarding RAM, you don't need to purchase a kit; just specify the part number and it will match consistently because they always come with the same IC. Be cautious with Chinese rebranded rams—they often appear new but usually have incorrect part numbers or mismatched ICS, making them hard to identify. The 32GB ECC version exists but is costly due to size. Your IMC should handle dual 2RX4 chips at full speed, so this shouldn't be an issue. I expect Intel would rate these Xeons for peak performance when fully loaded, especially since they're server-grade and you often see multiple high-capacity RAM sticks plus extra ranks. The rank configuration mainly matters during overclocking, particularly with weaker IMCs. Since Ivy E seems similar to the X58 in terms of specs, I wouldn't be surprised if it can reach over 2600 with dual ranks on all four channels—though I managed 2800 on Bloomfield with two 2RX8 sticks, which required a triple channel setup that didn't work at full speed. A newer 32nm chip would be better for testing triple channel, as the W3680 has stability problems with that configuration.

Apologies I was not that clear about my situation.... Here's the thing. I currently have a 32GB non ECC ram on my dell precision T3610 which is not enough for my Houdini simulation to cache so I am thinking of maxing out the ram to 128 Gb and swapping out to All ECC RAM since they are best for workstation. I have attached the photo of my current ram pls do check. I have got Xeon E5 - 1650 3.2GHZ 12 core And I am also thinking of upgrading my graphics card since this is out dated. These are the supported graphics card https://www.sidefx.com/Support/system-re...ics-cards/ But not sure they are supported on my workstation. can anyone pls help? Thanks

Precision T3610 can work with v2 Ivy Bridge-EP Xeons, handling up to 1866MHz, so consider it if you plan a future upgrade. A 16GB (or 32GB) ECC-registered PC3-12800R (1600) or PC3-14900R (1866) should suffice. I typically use four SK Hynix HMT42GR7BFR4A modules in a similar Lenovo ThinkStation S30 (E5-2690).

I bought another set and merged them, ending up with 64GB of ECC RAM that functioned properly. Eventually, the motherboard stopped working after about a year. For future purchases, I’d focus on sellers with strong ratings.
