SO a bit of backstory. My parents have had this laptop for about 7 years now and while system itself is still good the HDD is showing its age. The computer they use currently has windows 8.1 installed on it as that's what came with it from the factory. No here's my problem. i recently bought a 250GB SSD to replace their HDD and im trying to find the best way of installing windows 10 on it but have it be activated. I was thinking that i could just upgrade their 8.1 to 10, link it to a Microsoft account and then install windows 10 fresh on the SSD and log in with said Microsoft account. My worry is that the license itself wont transfer. If anybody can come up with a better solution im all ears. Im just trying to avoid having to buy a new copy of windows 10.
