Upgrade your system by installing a new SSD as the primary boot device in Windows.
Hello everyone, I'm trying to understand how to transfer my Windows installation from an HDD to an SSD while keeping the system image and recovery partition intact. I currently have a WD black SSD ready, but I'm having trouble using the method described in that forum link to move Windows and the Dell recovery partition onto the SSD. I'm considering a clean install but need guidance on properly configuring the drives so the SSD becomes the boot drive and the HDD remains just storage. Thanks for your assistance!
Make sure Windows installs on the SSD instead of the HDD. If the SSD isn't formatted, it will appear as "unallocated" or similar in the partitions view. The system will then be labeled as C:\ and become your main drive. After finishing installation, restart and adjust BIOS to set C drive as the primary boot device.
The latest Windows update includes a recovery partition by default. For a custom Dell-specific setup, obtain dedicated recovery or restore installation discs/ISOs from Dell.
