You're wondering if you should change your BIOS from version 3.90 to 5.30 directly, or go through intermediate steps like 4.20, 4.30, etc., before reaching 5.30. The update notes warn against doing this with certain CPUs and recommend checking the BIOS description for details. You're also curious about the "CPU Rev." column on the 5600 and whether updating should be done all at once or in stages. Additionally, you're considering upgrading your GPU to an RX 6700 XT and want to know if that affects the CPU upgrade decision.

Generally, incremental updates are sufficient unless specified otherwise. The description will indicate whether an earlier version is recommended before upgrading or not. If no guidance is given about prior versions, you can usually proceed directly to the latest available release without issues.

I understand your point about the warning regarding the BIOS version. It can make it seem safer to move to a newer BIOS, especially if you're concerned about compatibility with older models like the 3300x. My interpretation is that this might indicate potential support issues for older boards once updated. Upgrading to a BIOS that supports the 5600 without such restrictions seems like a reasonable choice.

Alright, that makes sense. I meant to look at the details. My answer was a general overview of bios updates and what usually applies. As I mentioned, Op should check each description to find the latest version that fits their setup best.

None of your CPUs belong to that group. 3300X comes from the Matisse lineup, part of Zen 2. For updates, move to version 4.60 directly—Asrock doesn’t require any specific higher firmware. Install the 5600 and then upgrade to the newest release. Regarding your GPU, it’s currently one of the most sought-after sub-1k combos, so that’s not an issue.

The CPU support list indicates a minimum requirement of version 5.30. Installing the 5600 on 4.60 would likely not meet those specifications.

Oh wait nevermind, even though it says the 5600 needs at least 5.30 to work 4.60's description says "supports 5000 series CPU." My fault
