Wondering what people's experience with this upgrade path (or very similar) has been. My 1800X is currently paired with a EVGA 3070 FTW3. My mobo does have an update available to make this a possible path. Also, is there a decent benchmark to use or am I really relegated to checking my usage for both cpu and gpu via system resource monitoring during actual game/program usage to see how bad the constriction is? So, any experience or opinions are welcome! As well as other recommendations, for instance, go with something other than the 5800x3d?? Thanks to any and all in advance!! edit: I guess I should also throw in my motherboard specs and ask if the latest firmware is the best one, or one of the slightly older ones if there are any known issues with the most recent. Anyway, the mobo is an Asus Prime X370-Pro (as of today I guess that question amounts to: Use 6026 or 6042? )

It seems the system should work, as the board has enough capacity for the 5800X3D power needs.

Thanks PDifolco. On a similar note, does anyone know if AMD is discontinuing production of the 5800x3d now that the 7000 series are releasing? Or do they not announce that type of thing? I ask because I can certainly hold out longer before upgrading, if perhaps the price will drop, but I also don't want to miss out on the upgrade completely by waiting too long, lol!

Don’t hold off for long... it’s likely X3D will stop soon.

It seems you're planning to begin shopping soon and will wait a bit before making the purchase.

5900X stands out as the top CPU I own, currently placed on a shelf. I’m also running 5800X3D while my son uses his 5600X.

Made the purchase and it should be here by next Tuesday. Can't wait! Updated from Amazon—now it's arriving early. Tomorrow it will be there. Yay, I can swap it over the weekend!
