You have a 4x8GB DDR3 RAM with 1333MHz speeds, but your motherboard doesn’t support quad channel. When you enable it, the BIOS recognizes the memory, yet Windows won’t boot. Switching to dual channel doesn’t help either. The older DIMMs function properly in both settings. What’s happening?

Consider resetting the CMOS after installing memory with the system powered down. Refer to your motherboard manual for guidance on dual vs single-ranked memory issues. Look for compatibility settings that may help stabilize the memory controller. Could you share your board model and CPU details, along with the RAM specifications you're using?

Your i7-4790 uses an MSI B85-G43 non-gaming chipset, and you're considering two upgrade paths: aftermarket brand PC3-10600-Cl9 or the original 2x4 kit from Lenovo. You've already modified most components except RAM and CPU, and plan to reset CMOS now.

Have you attempted launching into a Windows installation medium? If the system responds and memory is recognized, it suggests your Windows setup might be damaged. Switching to an alternative installer, such as Linux or another Windows install, could help verify the issue.

It started up on Windows using the previous RAM configuration, which makes me question if that’s the right setup. Still, I’ll give it another shot.

You might need a BIOS update for your system, especially if it's an H50 desktop series. Updates are typically available on the Lenovo support site. As another option, try running the memory without XMP settings.

I modified most parts except the CPU and RAM, so maybe it’s not that simple. I just switched back to 8GB, and I’ll stick with that until I can afford a new setup, probably.
