Upgrade your NMVE on your HP laptop.
i need to upgrade my HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk2003nr (7G725UA) or 15-dk2000 Laptop PC (2P1Z7AV), not totally sure which. I'm trying to find my specs on my 512 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD drive so i can upgrade it to a larger size. there is a 2.5 SSD option too but modern games can sometimes chug on the SATA connection interface. sadly hp support was never any help telling me this information. i have managed to find my windows 11 key thanks to search ai actually working giving mes the instructions to find it. ill pin it below if anyone else is curious. I'm including my CPU n ram specs because I'm trying to figure out if my laptop uses an 3.0 x4 or 4.0 x4 interface. the whole reason for the upgrade is because the slum apartments where i live had a brown out and killed my pc. it caught my PSU on fire that intern took out my main desktop pc GPU, CPU, RAM, NVMe™ M.2 SSD. I'm trying to upgrade laptop to hold me over till i can rebuild a streaming/editing desktop. but due to cost will take a really long time. but i would have enough in June to buy RAM SODIMM and SSD to update my HP Gaming laptop to hold me over. My Laptop List these Specs, sadly no Motherboard info: Processor Intel® Core™ i7-11370H (up to 4.8 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 12 MB L3 cache, 4 cores) Memory 8 GB DDR4-3200 MHz RAM (1 x 8 GB) Transfer rates up to 3200 MT/s. 1 x 8 GB Hard drive 512 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD Graphics (discrete) NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3050 Laptop GPU (4 GB GDDR6 dedicated) here's the steps i used to find my windows key if anyone was interested: To find your Windows 11 product key using the Command Prompt, open Command Prompt as an administrator, type wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey, and press Enter. The product key will be displayed in the Command Prompt window. Detailed Steps: 1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator: Search for "Command Prompt" in the Windows search bar. Right-click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as administrator". 2. Type and Execute the Command: Type the following command into the Command Prompt window and press Enter: wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey. 3. Locate the Product Key: The product key will be displayed on the screen after the command is executed. It will be under the OA3xOriginalProductKey header. Thanks in Advanced for any Community Help.
A higher NVME drive will function well in lower version M.2 slots. For example, you can purchase a Gen 5 drive and insert it into Gen 3 slots—it will operate as a Gen 3 drive with Gen 3 speed. I’m not sure about the specifics in your country, but locally the price gap between Gen levels isn’t huge, especially if they’re comparable performance units. I tend to opt for higher Gen because it can be adapted to newer systems that support higher slot generations. To verify, you could use CrystalDiskInfo; it should display the Gen of your drive and possibly the slot’s supported transfer mode. This might confirm what the system supports. However, I’m not confident enough to try without disassembling my PC. Sorry.
It seems the system can't identify the transfer mode. HP likely handles this automatically. The model is SK Hynix BC711 with HFM512GD3JX013N firmware, serial number FYBCT00021200CA4C. Disk capacity is 512.1 GB, using NVM Express 1.3 standard. Current usage shows 2967 hours on board with 692 counts recorded. Host reads total 34,803 GB and writes 28,409 GB. Temperature is stable at 37°C (98°F), and the health status remains good at 98%. Features include S.M.A.R.T., TRIM, and volatile write cache. Drive letter is C:
People often ask about using a faster NVMe drive in a lower-speed slot, like Gen 3 when installing a Gen 4 or Gen 5 device. It usually works at the slower speeds, but higher capacities might not function properly as a 4TB or more. This could influence your choice of purchase.
