Your current CPU is compatible with a DDR4 upgrade. You can retain your i7-4770K and move to a DDR4 motherboard and RAM. No need to replace everything at once.

You'd have to upgrade all three. Granted, you'd want to upgrade all three anyway, since you wouldn't get any performance uplift from DDR4 without a CPU upgrade.

The CPU's built-in memory controller determines the compatible RAM type. The i7-4770K only works with DDR3. Therefore, any motherboard you connect should match its requirements. Intel's latest CPUs (12th to 14th generation) support either DDR4 or DDR5, giving you the option to choose a board that supports one or the other (not both). Many boards offer two versions for compatibility.

The setup currently seems fairly well balanced. You likely won’t notice significant gains unless you really need more CPU power and have already optimized your 4770k (around 4.8GHz) with proper RAM speeds (~3000). At that point, upgrading without a better GPU alongside the CPU, motherboard, and RAM isn’t necessary. If you haven’t installed your CPU yet, do so now—start with 1.35V Vcore and a 48x multiplier, leave the fan off, and tweak based on performance and cooling. For RAM, 3000 MHz is feasible, though you might prefer 2800 MHz with an i7-930 and X58 if stability is a priority. With a 4x4 configuration, expect maximum performance around 2400 MHz or higher, not much more.
