You can back up your data onto an external hard drive and transfer it to another computer. This method will work for moving files, but it won’t install the operating system. For a full installation, you’ll need to use the official installer provided by Apple.

He swapped his MacBook Pro’s hard drive for an SSD. I created a Mac OS X install USB and he used it to set up the new drive. That’s the right approach.
