Checked the offer for an upgrade and wondering if it’s worth it for four extra threads. It’s the standard 2600 model, not the K version, which is why I’m asking. I understand second-gen i7s and i5s have solid overclocking potential, but I’m not sure about the non-K build. My i5-3550 runs smoothly at 4GHz-4.1GHz with good temperatures, and it pairs well with a GTX 650. I’m hoping to find a budget 1050 Ti or RX 570/580 to go along with it.

You won't be able to boost performance much on non-K chips, so steer clear of them if you want to increase speed.

I wasn’t aiming to push it too hard. Just checking if the upgrade makes sense given my current specs—8GB RAM, P88 board (which might not last long), and a 1060 graphics card for $165.

It's for my younger sibling. His computer is a 3550, Z77X, 16GB RAM, 1866MHz CL10, GTX 650 with 2GB, and a 550W GPU. A friend is offering his old PC, so I considered upgrading mine. I plan to add four more threads, similar to a 1060 with 3GB from a GTX 650. My current build is a 10600K 2080.

I’d prefer to sell the setup. A 1060 with 3GB feels like a poor deal. An RX 580 with 8GB is cheaper and performs better than the card you mentioned.

You were actually given a bit more flexibility with boosting the CPU multiplier during the Sandy and Ivy Bridge eras, even for non-K models. Nowadays, that's definitely a change.

From the OC tests I've run so far, it looks like my older 3550 has superior silicon and stronger OC performance compared to my current 10600k.
