I received a Dell Inspiron 3670 with an entry-level setup. It has an i3-8100 processor, integrated GPU, and 8GB of DDR4 RAM. I added an extra 16GB stick, bringing total memory to 24GB. An SSD was installed, and the original HDD was cloned. Performance remains slow, especially when opening new YouTube videos or tabs in Chrome, causing CPU usage to spike near 100%. I’m considering upgrading but haven’t checked current prices yet. I don’t play games much—just watch YouTube and work with Word documents. I’m thinking about upgrading to an Intel Core i7 or i9, possibly an 8700 or 9600, without overclocking. If I upgrade the CPU, will I need a new power supply? Thanks.
The processor is strong enough for your tasks. It shows unexpectedly high CPU activity even when using Chrome. I believe a fresh Windows installation could resolve most of your problems, especially given that you cloned the HDD.
