I'm sure this question gets asked a lot. Sorry about that. Right now I have a 4690K which isn't cutting the productivity that I'm trying to do right now. I have wanted to upgrade my CPU for awhile, but I'm someone who upgrades very infrequently so I'm wondering if waiting for AMD's 6000 series is worth it or just get a 5000 series now, and if I do a 6000 series AMD, should I go with DDR4 or DDR5 RAM? From a consumer perspective Intel is off the consideration so don't mention it in this thread.

You've been waiting a long time—better to wait for 12,600k benches and Zen 3D now. No reason they'd be left out since they've always offered the best value recently.

They don’t matter to me. Intel has consistently prioritized their customers, whereas AMD focuses on different goals. If AMD’s strategy works for them, I’ll support it regardless of the brand.

Realistically, you should aim for 6 core 12 thread right away since many apps are shifting there, though the need depends on how urgent your performance goals are.

They essentially took over right away once they secured the lead. The benches will be gone by November 4th, and I’m hoping for an AMD announcement soon—better wait.

Thanks for the details. I'll keep an eye out for that. It seems Intel has taken the role of AMD. New-gen Intel processors use a lot of power to match AMD performance.

this was just in another discussion lol, rumors say 12600k is around 240w and 12900k about 330w, 11900k at 300w. there are also reports of latency problems with DDR5, which makes it less ideal for gaming and the numbers don’t tell the whole story. if you’re playing with this setup, I’ll compare 12th gen DDR4 with Zen3D DDR4—DDR5 might work since I’m not confident about the leaks. it’ll be exciting soon!

It's also what people said about DDR5. It offers more data transfer speed but slower response time, which could affect gaming performance. Probably best to keep an eye on the upcoming reviews.

I'm currently running the I5 3570k ... I need to upgrade soon because after nearly 8 years of abuse my machine is nearing its end. And too I'm pondering in grabbing a x570 based system, or wait for the next gen, because with intel and amd right now, every now baught system won't be upgradeable in the future regarding CPU or RAM. And if I shell out 1k-1.5k bucks for a new system it better lasts 7-8 years like my current one did. (and the upgrade from core2duo to this i5 was only about 500 bucks... with board, cpu and ram.) So right now, I'll hope my machine keeps up until the next gen is out.

Never assume anything about AMD; they’re just as questionable when they try to sell, and their main goal is profit. Don’t hesitate—purchase immediately. The 5600x and higher models are capable of handling top-tier GPUs without any issues.
