I've been preparing to upgrade from a Pentium G4400 to an Intel i7-7700K. I've done my research, but I'm still unsure whether my current motherboard will work or if I need a new one.

I don't have a motherboard. Can you clarify what you're asking about?

Which model are you looking at? Also, is this a refurbished or brand new 7700K? If it's brand new, maybe skip the search; if it's used, it might still be worth considering. The 7700K is now easily surpassed by more affordable CPUs, so it's probably not a solid offer. You might be better off upgrading to a newer platform.

Other boards supporting the G4400 model can also run the 7700k, though updates are usually necessary. In most situations, updating the BIOS won't be feasible except for Z170/Z270 models. This upgrade only makes sense if you can locate very affordable and functional 6700/7700 CPUs. At regular prices, it's essentially impractical. To confirm compatibility, manufacturers typically release full CPU compatibility lists (requiring the BIOS version) that match your motherboard. If you find a reasonably priced used CPU, it will still function well.

Caution for the OP, this doesn't affect very basic boards or OEM models. Results may vary. +1 for anyone discussing the 7700K being matched by $100 CPUs.

Producer with a CPU on the supported list functions properly. I'm unsure why many believe only 200$ boards are suitable. Any H110 can run i7 without issues, though other features may be restricted. It will still operate.

I'm focusing on this aspect. I've encountered OEM boards that prevent K chips from working. It's important to verify the support CPU list for confirmed compatibility.
