You're looking to upgrade your Intel 8280 with 1GB RAM on a compatible motherboard. Besides dual-core and Core 2 Duo options, you might also consider:

- **Intel Core i5-10400** – supports up to 6 cores, good for multitasking.
- **Intel Core i5-11400** – offers higher performance with more threads.
- **Intel Core i7-10600K** – if you need strong gaming or heavy workloads.

Check your motherboard's specifications to ensure compatibility before purchasing.

It relies on the north bridge. The 82801GB is a south bridge chip, yet even with Core 2 quad support, it doesn't offer significant improvement compared to current standards.

It might work, though Core 2 has limited support for newer features (only up to 3Gbps SATA ports) and its single-core performance is restricted. The Core 2 Duo to Quad upgrade won't address these issues.
