I checked my options and looked into CPUs. They suggested moving to an Xeon E5 1650, which looks like a solid choice for value. You mentioned the E3 1231 v3 at $70 with your existing motherboard—consider it alone if you're mainly on the market side. The 1650 offers gaming potential and overclocking, making it worth the investment if you want that extra performance.

the cpus are pretty much identical, particularly regarding boost speeds, except for one that includes an additional two cores. if you already own the motherboard, the 1650 seems to be the superior option. alternatively, you might go with the e3 1231 v3, or think about upgrading to a b450 board paired with a ryzen cpu, because the cost of the 1650 plus a board is sufficient for a solid b450 setup and a good ryan 5 2600, not to mention future upgrades.

I mentioned the cost of an E5 1650 and an LGA 2011 motherboard, usually around $160.

They're priced at 80 dollars for the CPU and motherboard, used locally.
