Hi, I remember the thread I shared a while ago about considering a PC upgrade. In short, I never upgraded and kept using my PC and MacBook as usual.
Now, things have changed. My PC is beginning to malfunction. It keeps beeping (6-7 beeps) when starting up, it often freezes, freezes during wake-up, and shows a BSOD with a video TDR message.

Approximate Purchase Date: ASAP! I can wait up to a month if necessary.
Budget Range: $4,000 USD, but it could be higher if it’s worth it. (I think once you hit a certain budget, you end up paying 10 times more for just a 1% improvement and don’t want to waste money.)
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Programming/Coding, Surfing the internet, Figma/Photoshop, Video Editing, Some Gaming, a bit of 3ds max/maya.
Are you buying a monitor?
No, but I can check the pixels... I currently have an Asus mx279H (27 inch, 1920x1080).

I’m looking at the following options:
- CPU: Intel Core i7-14700K Raptor Lake 3.4GHz, 20-core ($369.99 @ Microcenter). The 15th gen is expected later in 2024, so I probably won’t wait unless it’s within 1-2 months.
- GPU: Should I stick with my GTX 1080 or upgrade to a GeForce RTX 4070 12GB GDDR6X PCIe 4.0 ($629.99 @ Microcenter)?
- Motherboard: No idea.
- RAM: At least 4GB, 8GB sounds fine.
- Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 1 TB
- Case: No idea.
- Power Supply: No clue, but at least 850W?

Prefer two 16GB sticks over four 8GB sticks for RAM.
If you have a long-term plan for 64GB, it's better to go with two 32GB now instead of adding more later.
Based on your budget, I would consider DDR 5 and ensure your motherboard is compatible.
Air cooling works if your case airflow is average. Possible options start around 50 dollars.
I’d aim to avoid any plans for more than 250GB on the motherboard.
I can transfer the 1080 GTX video card since I don't play games often. I might choose 2 x 16gb if that suits better. My existing RAM also works fine, so I don't feel the need for more. DDR5
