You're asking about the impact of using a Windows 7 OEM key for upgrading to Windows 10. It seems you're concerned about whether the upgrade process might affect hardware compatibility or if you'll end up with a non-OEM key. The general advice is that using an OEM key for Windows 7 typically won't interfere with hardware upgrades, but Microsoft may restrict certain features or require a new key for Windows 10. It's best to confirm directly with Microsoft or your hardware manufacturer about their policies regarding OEM keys and upgrades.

When exchanging a motherboard... I’d hold off until later. Keys are now tied to the board. Upgrading and then swapping again would require downgrading to version 7, reactivating, and re-upgrading to 10. I handled it myself... but instead of adjusting the board, I just bought a Windows 10 key and activated it. I think $100 for something that offers hundreds of hours of use is worth the price. Unless there’s been a change in the process lately.

I think I’ll probably wait before upgrading the motherboard, but since I already spent a lot on it, it’ll really make a big difference if I do this later.
