Upgrade Windows 10 Enterprise from version 8.1 Enterprise
Upgrade Windows 10 Enterprise from version 8.1 Enterprise
It would really be a hassle, wouldn’t it? Could I possibly get a license for Windows 10 Enterprise and install it myself? Since I already know what they’ll say, I’ll wait until the education department releases an update. Given they only moved to Windows 8 for classroom computers earlier this year, it seems like a long time before anything changes.
Enterprise versions are only offered through VL agreements. You can't purchase them directly. If needed, you might consider buying Windows 10 Pro and linking it to your school's AD. You can check saved WiFi profiles in PC Setiings (not the Control Panel) and should be able to view the password if you have admin rights.
Yes, if you proceed, you should be able to retain all the programs already installed.
Hi Gibbsy81 Just so you know Victorian DET (formally DEECD) will be selecting schools in September for beta testing eduSTARv6 (Win 10 build of the SOE image) Final release is penciled in for late October. If your lucky and your school is proactive rather than reactive your school might be expressing interest in being part of the beta test of v6 Remember though even if the image is available the schools infrastructure may not be, so you can ask but understand 1 person asking for an upgrade probably wont help Perhaps offer to be a tester for them... this might be enough for them to consider your request. Best of luck!
The tech office seems quite excited about the new 1:1 laptop initiative, though things have calmed down recently. I’ll keep them updated and see if they can share the beta image. Once the final edustar release comes around, there’s usually a significant wait before it’s rolled out to all schools.
After the EduSTAR image is released, schools can download it within a few hours to one day based on their VicSmart connection size. Once downloaded, the process becomes less consistent, as testing methods and imaging devices differ widely. If MDT is used, there will be some practical setup steps required. With SCCM, deployment might be faster. Regardless, patience is key—schools tend to hesitate unless they have strong technical skills to handle issues. Ask them about it, even if the answer isn’t ideal. Let them know you’re open to testing and that trials could help everyone. Your schools plan to adopt it during term breaks or at year-end, so rollouts in term often cause more problems than benefits.
I’d probably ask them how rolling this out during the term might cause problems.
