It would be wise to upgrade the motherboard since the VRMs aren’t very strong. A stock 5600G could work without PBO, though that’s not ideal if you have it available.

5000 series chips became more expensive in the UK once the 7000 series arrived, so I believe prices might drop again for sales. I’d probably pick the 5600 over the 5600G. For cooling, just stick with whatever you’re using right now for the 1600.

I selected the 5000 series mainly to avoid an additional 120€ for a mainboard upgrade. Otherwise, the options would have been 1700 b660 plus 13600kf. I intend to use XMP settings, and the VRMs should work fine... probably?

Consider opting for the standard Ryzen 5 5600. The 5600 non-G variant is priced higher, while the G version offers a lower cost and includes an integrated GPU. You’d likely prefer the added value of the included GPU. Updated October 27, 2022 by ManemeJeff, clarified in a recent update.

I checked online but didn’t find any clear explanation for the price difference. This makes it more understandable. I’ll stick with the 5600 boxed cooler since I plan to give the 1600 plus one. The savings won’t be huge, but it’s still a good option. An aftermarket cooler might also help reduce noise.

It confirms support but doesn't necessarily indicate a recommendation. Adding fans directed at the VRMs on the motherboard would be more effective, as discussed earlier, to improve cooling.

I have a fan at the top for exhaust. I could turn it upside down to gently push air downward toward the VRMs. While hot air naturally climbs, I’m unsure if working against that would help. Maybe placing an exhaust fan at the back or near the I/O panel would be better.

The cooling performance within a unit with fan circulation is reduced. It’s hard to notice natural convection happening inside. Your choice of case should be suitable for this setup.
