Hey, think about upgrading to AM5 instead of sticking with your 3700X and AM4 setup. You're aiming for a GPU that supports MESA standards, similar to AMD models, to switch from xorg to Wayland for better performance. It's worth considering whether this change will introduce any bottlenecks or if it's better to replace the existing components entirely.

Adopting AM5 also implies a fresh memory setup. Does your budget cover a new CPU, motherboard, and memory? Apart from maybe enhancing your GPU, isn't your existing setup falling short of your requirements?

I mainly develop and compile demanding projects using Rust and similar languages. Anything fits within my budget, but my computer has been running slowly lately—this would become a bigger issue if I plan to upgrade later.

It might be a good idea to check GPU choices now. New AM5 CPUs are arriving soon, so it could be worthwhile waiting.

The 5700X3D remains a solid CPU choice. It should serve you well for several more years before becoming outdated.
It's best to hold off on upgrading to the next generation Radeon cards for the GPU.

My PSU is 850W while my 3700X uses 65W. I'm concerned about overloading it and want to avoid any issues. I also plan to use an AMD GPU with a lower TDP than my RTX 2070S.

the 2070 super consumes 250w, my 7800x3d uses 120w and the 4070ti super is 285w. i'm running an 850w power supply.
