I’m currently running a Ryzen 3 2200G on a Biostar A320m board and was considering switching to a Ryzen 5 5600G. After checking the manufacturer’s site and the latest BIOS update, it looks like the 5600G should work with my motherboard. I plan to upgrade my board to something like B450 or B550 soon. My main concern is whether the A320 can handle the transition over the next month.
I’m working as a Virtual Assistant and will be using my PC for admin duties, Google Sheets, plus some CS:GO and Valorant games. Below is the manufacturer’s page listing compatible CPUs. Any advice or details would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
You must upgrade the BIOS to version 505, released on May 5, 2022. Format a drive using FAT32 and insert it onto a USB stick connected via USB 2.0 ports on the back. Access the BIOS settings and press F12 to install the new BIOS file from the USB drive.
Thanks! I was mainly concerned about damaging the A320 motherboard with the 5600G. I plan to use it on the A320 for roughly a month before switching to the B450.
It uses about 60 to 80 watts, similar to a Ryzen 1700. The VRM setup is average—three phases with two low-side MOSFETs that have high RDS(on). This can cause the VRM to get hot, but it should still manage the load and likely won’t harm the board.

The processor isn't damaging the motherboard; it's just not functioning properly. To resolve this, check the manufacturer's website using your motherboard model—especially noting any revisions—and look for a CPU compatibility list. It will indicate which processors are supported and the required BIOS version. For Biostar A320 chipset boards, you can find details at the provided link. Scroll to the CPU Support section and you'll see 5600G listed. Continue scrolling to the right, and you'll find the BIOS version listed—such as A32GS505.BSS. If your BIOS isn't updated to the latest version, the 5600G won't work.
