I have an i7-10700k on a MSI Tomahawk z490 Mobo with 32Gigs mem. I’m considering upgrading to either an i9-10850k or an i7-11700k. The i9 has two extra cores and AVX512 support, while the i7 offers newer features. It’s hard to decide between the benefits of each.

It depends on whether you require the advanced capabilities of the 11700k. If not, I’d likely skip it since the performance gains wouldn’t matter much. But if you need the extra AVX512 support and already have a solid cooling setup, go for it. Otherwise, for a better upgrade path, the i9 would be the smarter choice.

You own a Noctua NH-U14S. Its purpose isn’t clear yet, but AVX512 might become useful soon as new software updates arrive.

Consider improving later when used prices drop. Upgrading now isn't practical, particularly since current benchmarks don't show a significant edge over the 10700k model.

Current games mostly rely on standard AVX instead of advanced options

It seems like you're worried about the value of your 10700 over time and the rising prices of new i9 10850s. You're considering buying one for around $406, noting that Microcenter isn't nearby but asking about their current pricing. The prices at Microcenter are reportedly much higher than Amazon, yet they don't ship.

By then, switch to a more recent system. If you're really weighing whether extra cores are necessary, chances are you're not. You'd only need them if you're certain you require more than eight, and even then, the 10-core version of Ryzen should work well unless your task demands it.
