Upgrade to a faster processor for improved performance.
Hello everyone, I’m using a Ryzen 5 3600 with a 2070 Super at 1440p. In recent games like Warzone 2 and Hogwarts Legacy, I’m experiencing drop rates well under 100 fps even when using lower settings with DLSS. I’m considering switching to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, but I’m unsure if investing in that would be more beneficial than upgrading to a 4070ti. Are anyone else in this situation? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!
It's true that the 2070 Super stands out as a powerful card for 1440p and Warzone 2.0, but it can push your GPU to its limits. On the flip side, a 4070Ti might become a significant constraint with the 3600. The only title I’m aware of where people complain about these two is Hogwarts Legacy. On my girlfriend’s machine it runs smoothly at just over 60 FPS in 1080p ultra, using an RX6650XT that performs similarly to the 2070 Super. Even when upscaling to 1440p with DLSS, you’d likely see around 60 FPS at most.
I believe upgrading the CPU and GPU will be necessary to maintain over 100 FPS at 1440p. I plan to experiment with either the GPU or CPU now and then switch later this year. To keep costs low, staying on the AM4 socket seems sensible. The 5800X3D is a reasonable choice right now, even if it won’t boost performance much, but adding a 4070Ti or 4080 later should provide a solid setup for 1440p.
I'm essentially doing the same, upgraded to 5800X3D from 3700x with plans to upgrade later. My GPU is a lower tier than yours, but most games showed an average FPS boost. The biggest gain was a noticeable improvement in lows—FPS would drop to the 40s now stays around 60, with only minor frame drops and almost no stutters left. It's mostly just memory issues.
