I'm using the 10980XE on ASUS Prime Deluxe II with 128GB DDR4. For gaming, I mostly play Dota 2 and AAA single-player games like Cyberpunk, Borderlands, and Far Cry. How much performance drop would the 10980XE cause? Would it be worth upgrading to AM5 for at least an extra $2000?

For gaming purposes, it probably isn't worth the investment. I'd want to see how it boosts your productivity and offers better returns. Would spending $2k be justified if it helps you advance? Don't you think selling your current equipment could be a smarter move?

I handle every part of game creation from start to finish. This means I manage both demanding CPU and GPU work. It’s more efficient for me to keep another platform, purchase something like an Ark GPU, and move some CPU tasks to a separate machine—something I already have ready with spare parts.

I'm mainly worried about borderlands 3, especially with upcoming spin-offs. Right now I see 50-60 frames per second at 5120x1440 on my Odyssey G9 (model 9), and sometimes the drop is really visible. In reviews, 3090 was expected to hit 80fps at 4K, but during testing my GPU was running at full capacity. I'm unsure if the slower frame rate came from a CPU issue or because the game doesn't handle very wide screens well. I want to find out if this happens with the 4090 as well.

As with anything from a "worth" standpoint, you and you alone can answer this. Is it worth the lower rendering times etc? Then get it. If not? Then don't.

Running smoothly at version 4.8 with performance around 1.4. Increasing speed feels risky, but the processor has a built-in loop using four cores. You might want to tweak other settings. Reducing voltage can cause issues.

Huh a bad sample, or you are just running at high temps Ryzen 7000 is hot because the terrible ihs design, its too thicc which means direct die can yeild ~20c drop at higher ocs (1.2v+ 5.4+), der8aur made a vid on direct die ryzen 7000 so check that out. You will need to direct die to even make use of your custom loop with ryzen 7000 If you wanna have a go at ryzen 7000 sure go ahead, though 32gbit ics arent in the hands of consumers atm so youll be stuck at 128gb in a terrible quad rank configuration (overly stresses the imc) which will pretty much nuke any futureproofing with ddr5 (any ic that isnt garbage micron 16gbit a die does 7000 atleast which should be enough to ride out most if not all of the ddr5 generation with a kit you buy now)
