I upgraded to a 1600 and a B350M gaming board, so I’m planning to replace my current CPU for future AM5 generations. I only play games at 1440p and don’t use it for anything else. The 3700X costs $200, which is the main factor, while the 5600X is $260. If I go with the 3700X, I might be able to reuse the motherboard, but I’m unsure if that’s safe. My notes suggest it should work with a bit of airflow, and a video I found seems to show some VRM issues under load. I’ll likely use a basic SE224XT cooler and probably won’t do any overclocking.

I'm paired with a specific GPU, but I don't have that information readily available. Could you provide more details or check your device settings?

Check if the motherboard you have (no brand specified) can run BIOS for a Ryzen 5000. Still verifying details. The model listed is a 3060Ti.

It should work well with the 3700X.

In fact, the CPU compatibility list excludes the Ryzen 5000. It seems MSI hasn't provided a suitable BIOS for it. https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/...upport-cpu

I understand, but it backs the 3700x option which seems favorable for my budget, though I’m still unsure about the best match.

It seems you believed your motherboard could handle the Ryzen 5600x after your initial comment.

If the 3700X behaves similarly to my 3900XT, I’d definitely suggest it.

When gaming at 1440p resolution, the 3700X should work well. The 3060 Ti offers slightly less power compared to the 2080 Ti, which was tested by many YouTubers when it launched. Reviewing those tests gives you a clearer picture of how the 3700X handles different games at that setting. Generally, most titles at 1440p put the GPU in the lead, so the 3700X performs near the 9900K and is considered a solid choice for gaming.
