It was two years ago when I purchased a Ryzen 5 2600 + Gigabyte B450 DS3H. This year it received an upgrade to 5600X, followed by upgraded RAM and a X570 Aorus Elite. The final addition was a Dark Rock Pro 4 – a powerful component – paired with an overpowered cooler. Things changed when I attempted to install it inside the case. The CPU wasn’t securing properly, screws were misplaced, and the setup fell apart. Eventually, everything functioned correctly, and the system started smoothly. However, a critical issue emerged: the task manager displayed only 16 of the available 32GB RAM, and the BIOS also showed a limitation. Worse still, only one memory channel was active (DIMMs A1 and A2). I tried all standard troubleshooting steps – reinserting RAM, adjusting XMP settings, changing configurations, loosening cooler screws, and ensuring no pin damage. Still nothing resolved the problem. Both the 2600 on the X570 board and the 5600X on the B450 board retained all four RAM modules. This inconsistency suggests a compatibility issue between the new CPU and motherboard, possibly due to channel mismatch when using the new memory configuration. I’m puzzled by this situation and seeking advice on what might be causing it.

Typically, you clean and refill the memory. Apply a bit of contact cleaner to the memory port. This approach helped me about 90% of the time, with only 10% failures.

All slots functioned with the R5 2600, making it unlikely they’re dirty. Since I haven’t tried it, ordering a contact cleaner seems necessary. Should I clean the CPU socket and the pins as well?

I definitely didn’t try that before, honestly—I don’t see why. CPU sockets seem protected from dust and airflow, so cleaning probably isn’t necessary. On the flip side, memory sockets are more likely to get oxidized due to air exposure. After recently replacing the motherboard and moving the RAM, I noticed some issues; half of the slots weren’t working. I cleaned the modules, sprayed the slots, and it worked again.

Run each memory separately on one of the fastest slots using Memtest86. Confirm no errors occurred.
