I'm using Windows 8 on two devices at home. I've been getting a notification from each one asking me to upgrade to Windows 8.1. It feels like I can't skip this process anymore—it says I need to save my work before the system restarts and updates. Have others experienced this? Is this really required? Thanks!

upgrading isn't recommended because Win 8 has many issues, while 8.1 fixes about 96% of those problems.

It doesn’t seem like there’s an issue with Windows 8.1, as it addresses many issues from Windows 8.

The initial program that springs to mind is Start Is Back. Does this update apply to version 8.1? My main concern is whether Microsoft enforces this requirement. It seems users should have the freedom to choose their preferred operating system.
